Commonwealth Karate Championships – Birmingham 2022

The official Commonwealth  Championships had national teams from around the commonwealth competing at this very high level. Seventeen of our athletes, from all over the country, had been selected to compete for the England National Kata Team.

Prior to the Championships, the final training camp for the England team was held in Ripon, North Yorkshire, on 24 -26th August, taking full advantage of the great local facilities, including the Karate dojo. The camp proved to be the best possible preparation for a record breaking Commonwealth Championship.

The 17 athletes competed over 9 categories, covering the under 21s team and the senior team; with the new team focusing on youth, meant that the senior athletes could also compete in the under 21s.

All Kata categories were extremely competitive as you would expect, therefore all of our England athletes had to be on their A game, and the  final training camp proved to be the perfect preparation to be at peak performance for the championships.

The young team broke Commonwealth records becoming the most successful England  kata team  in the Commonwealth Karate Championship’s history.

Results:
6 Gold Medals – 3 Silver medals – 4 bronze medals
